Belle Tozer

Two weeks ago, I did something that terrified me. I deleted my Instagram and TikTok accounts. Not a detox. Not a break. I didn’t hide the apps. I didn’t log out. I deleted them.

The fear was real. I worried no one would find me. I thought my business would vanish. I compared myself to other spirit baby mediums with thousands of followers. Their posts were everywhere. Mine felt invisible.

The Truth About the Scroll

The deeper truth is hard to face. The game is rigged.

We think we choose what we see online. But the algorithm decides. We are not the customer. We are the product.

In 2006, a designer named Aza Raskin created the infinite scroll. It looks harmless. But it triggers addiction. Imagine a bottomless bowl of soup. You keep eating, not because you are hungry, but because the bowl never empties.

That is how social media works. Every like, scroll, and click is harvested as data. The goal is not connection. The goal is profit.

The Moment I Walked Away

Once I saw this, I couldn’t unsee it.

I tried timers. I tried limits. I set intentions. But the system is built for failure. It is designed to keep us hooked. So I hit delete.

I still use Facebook for ads manager. But it’s not on my phone. I log in, do what I need, and log out.

And in just two weeks, life feels different.

What Opened Up Without Social Media

I discovered Pinterest. I used to think it was only for recipes and home décor. But it is a search engine, not a feed. People come to Pinterest to look for answers. They come to find what they need.

When I began sharing my spirit baby messages there, my website traffic tripled in two weeks. I never saw that growth on Instagram.

I also learned about metadata and SEO. Things I used to skip. That small shift opened doors for my work to reach more people.

In the space social media left behind, I created again. I recorded three podcast episodes after two years away. I surfed eight times. I rode the 48 km Tweed Valley Rail Trail with a friend. I still use my phone, but I no longer scroll. I receive.

The Sacred Pause

That was the piece I had been missing. The sacred pause.

The energy of receptivity. The same energy a woman needs when she is calling in a baby. You cannot be in constant output and expect to receive.

We must soften. We must open. We must let the noise fall away. That is where creation begins.
